About the workproject

We need 10 volunteers

MONKEEBAR is a lively bar/club in the center of Kuching. https://www.facebook.com/Monkeebar-829653973717400/
Monkeebar is one of Kuching’s most popular nightspots. 50% of the profits support environmental conservation & animal welfare across Borneo. The atmosphere is fun, the music is loud, the drinks are always flowing, and we have regulars that love us and keeping coming back! Volunteers provide support to the local staff who run Monkeebar by helping with customer service as well as helping with education & outreach about conservation.

BEAR GARDEN is a pub with vegan bar snacks and a relaxed atmosphere in Kuching. https://www.facebook.com/BearGardenKch/
Bear Garden is a pub with a vegan kitchen. There’s space for large groups, board & card games for families in the early evening, and often dancing late at night! Depending on the what's going on (and what skills the volunteers have!) volunteers may lend a hand with anything from cooking, kitchen work, construction projects, bar-tending, customer service, photography, social media, music selection, & more!

BASAGA HOLIDAY RESORT, LUNDU is a beach resort in Lundu, Siar Beach. https://www.facebook.com/Basaga-holiday-resort-lundu-345283702576062/
Basaga Holiday Resort, Lundu is our newest nonprofit business. A beautiful beach side resort with individual villas and a swimming pool, it just opened to the public. Volunteers at the beach resort should be prepared to be flexible as it's a small team with everyone helping out on all projects, including customer-related work like assisting at reception, behind the bar, in the kitchen kitchen, as well as site maintenance and gardening and more!

Orangutan Project (projectorangutan.com) is a Malaysian conservation company and UK registered charity offering alternative solutions and sustainable funding opportunities for the endangered wildlife on Borneo. Orangutan Project owns 50% of two bars in Kuching and a beach resort in Lundu, Siar Beach. Our share of the profits support conservation work at sites across Borneo, including the Matang Wildlife Centre.

We believe that non-profit businesses offer an alternative, sustainable fundraising model to support conservation by involving the local community and providing an opportunity for educational outreach. Having volunteers from around the world join our team of local staff who run the businesses allows for a true learning exchange and gives an opportunity for exposure of the international community committed to conservation!

Volunteering at any of our non-profit businesses is a creative way to use your skills (and your outgoing personality!) to help conservation! Not everyone can (or should!) have direct contact with endangered species, but everyone can use their skill set to help!

The local staff and the international volunteers at Monkeebar and the sister businesses Bear Garden and Basaga Holiday Resort, Lundu are a welcoming family.
