About the workproject

We need 11 volunteers

Himalayan volunteering Organization is a local initiative by a group of like minded people who felt a strong need to help and support underprevilieged communities of the Garhwal Himalayas. The objective is to help these marginalized communities/age groups by involving them in various developmental initiatives for their better future.

We run 2 projects

1. volunteer in a primary school
2. work in a eco farm

English teaching in a government primary school

Teaching program is run in a Government Primary School in the mountains. The volunteers will work in the school and organize various enjoyable and creative activities for the children to sharpen their talents and increase their knowledge. Our objective is to create new learning models, methods and strategies to provide the children all comprehensive learing enivornment.

Program Description:

The volunteers will assist in a wide variety of chosen subjects and activities, including English, Mathematics, Arts and Sports. Since volunteer activities are organized in Government Schools where acute shortage of teachers exists, the volunteers are therefore expected to focus mainly on the syllabus being taught in the Schools. The volunteers work continuously to explore the hidden talents in the children and to promote them. The volunteers might find that they learn as much as from them as the children will learn from the volunteers.

Volunteer work activities:

Volunteers will teach the children English covering to their current syllabus. In addition you can teach Alphabets, Counting, Days of weeks, Months of year, Manners, Writing practice etc..

Project requirements:

Duration - The minimum required time for English Teaching program is one week.
Qualification - Volunteers must participate in this program with an open mind, giving heart, and flexibility to work with different age ranges of children.
Visa type - You will need the tourist visa for this program.

2. Eco village build project:

Volunteer in a sustainable self build project in the Himalayas. An opportunity to develop your theoretic knowledge and practical skills associated with sustainable self-building and to network, befriend other like-minded people. The program focuses using sustainable building techniques to construct buildings.

Program description:

The volunteers assist in helping construct homes that is built using sustainable building practices and functions in harmony with its environment once its built. Its an affordable alternative that is more focused on community and a common goal. Volunteers help in pounding, cutting, banging, stomping, stirring, laughing. The building style integrated would be Rammed earth, local materials, rock slabs, thatch, stone, bamboo, wood, etc. You get involved to install sustainable systems integrated that is solar power, rain water collection, hydro power, sustainable appliances, grey-water re-use system, Food system integration, rocket stove and others.

Project requirements:

Duration - The minimum required time for sustainble building project is 4 weeks.
Qualification – Volunteers are required to participate mentally and physically getting their hands , clothes dirty.
Visa type - You will need the tourist visa for this program.

Namaste I am Naveen and work for the upliftment of the local community. I started gap year volunteer program and a school projects to promote educational and other developmental works. The objective is to promote inter cultural exchange between different communities and people. I have experience working with different grass root organization in India promoting various developmental projects to help the local community.

Rooms are neat, clean and on sharing basis. Two volunteers share one room. We provide rooms free of cost the volunteers just got to contribute their food expenses.

  • shared meals

We provide 3 vegetarian meal for our volunteers which is breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast at 8:30 am, lunch 1:30/2:00 and dinner at 6:30/7:00 pm. The cuisine( garhwali) is unique to its characteristic not found elsewhere in other parts. The food consists various delicacies made of locally grown vegetables, fruits, wheat, rice, pulses and millet. We have a small contribution of USD 10 a day for the 2 full meals provided.
