3 Moons! Earth bag domes & More~

Eli and Missy-finished the \'hare-him\'

My wife, Missy and I recently completed a week at 3 Moons and wished we could have stayed longer! Our first night there was a full moon, and ThreeMoons hosted a drum circle! We met some very diverse and fabulous people who live nearby. We enjoyed the healing elements of staying inside an earthbag dome and being out in nature. We spotted a baby scorpion, a desert snake, and kangaroo mice, and the stars above are incredible!

We learned a lot about the process and skills needed to build an earthbag structure. My wife and I made a compost toilet enclosure out of repurposed wood and metal roofing, and it turned out very well. Belgian-born, internationally renowned artist Jeanne came up with the ingenious plan to encase the building with mosquito netting for both practicality and a dash of 'harem (hare-him)' style.

Without a doubt, the most memorable aspect of our "volunteer-cation" was the incredible people we got to know, work alongside, and share in the joys of life with. Lafae, Divina my wife, Missy, and I played music, shared stories, and sang while working. Lafae was barefoot and mixed the 'cob' (mud and straw) for us to apply to the earth bags, and Jeanne took photos while overseeing the project.

Janet and her friend Julie hosted a special Karaoke night in Pahrump, CA, just for the members of 3 Moons and their friends, and we all went there to spend some quality time together. More singing and dancing, and Jeanne was a shining star! At 90 years young-she does not miss a beat; everyone sought her out for conversation and words of wisdom.

Peter, Jeanne's son, is the loveliest person, and he lives close to 3 Moons, so we made a special trip to see him. While we were there, he showed us a Tai Chi exercise move called the "Thunder Ball, which is a lot like the popular 'wax on, wax off' technique. As we warmed up with some deep breathing and bending down to touch our toes, I turned around and saw Jeanne doing the same thing!

The week we spent at 3 Moons could fill a novel (and maybe I will write about it). If you're looking to 'unravel' yourself, connect with nature, and be truly present with others who share your values, I implore you to make the most of your time here and stay as long as you can!
