The magical city

Hitting the road again

Moving onward from Prague, we decided to get the upgrade on the train ride to Vienna. It was awesome. We had a table to work at in big, fancy leather chairs and a smooth ride. We had brought the goodies we bought at the farmers market in Prague the previous day and had a picnic with pate, mustard, crackers and beer. It was probably one of the best travel days so far!

As we arrived in Vienna, we took the metro to a tram and then walked the rest of the way to our AirBNB. By this time we were quite done with meat and carbs for a while, given we had just come from Czech Republic, so we decided to go for something a little different than we’re used to. Thankfully, just up the road from us was a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant. After devouring some of the first Asian food we’d had in months, we went home for a nice, long sleep.

We spent the following day walking around the downtown core of Vienna taking photos and falling in love with this amazing city. The architecture is so wonderful and the people are so friendly and nice. We knew we were going to like Vienna before we got here, but not this much. The only part we found tough was that it is quite expensive, due to the tourism, but most places get that way over time anyway.

One of our new friends that we met at TBEX (the conference we had just went to) was currently living in Vienna, so we had plans to meet up with her for dinner one evening. We made our way to one of the many traditional Austrian restaurants and sat down for some incredible schnitzel! As much as we’d grown tired of heavy meat dishes, there’s always room for a schnitzel!

Just before arriving in Vienna we had watched one of our favourite movies: “Before Sunrise,” once again. The movie tells the story of a guy from America, and girl from France, who meet on the train and decide to walk around Vienna all night to get to know each other before he had to fly back home. If you haven’t seen the movie, go do that now. We wanted to see some of the places they walked past for a little ‘Before Sunrise’ tour.

I think it was the best way to see the whole city, we walked for about five hours, seeing a lot more than just the movie scenes. It’s definitely a great way to introduce yourself to Vienna before arriving and to inspire some new and unique ideas for visiting!
