Speaks

I speak English as a home language, and speak basic Spanish, with a particular proficiency in understanding- but not speaking. I used to be near fluent in Spanish when I was a child living in Mexico, but much of my Spanish has left me since then. I also am near fluent in Afrikaans.

About me

I am an 18-year-old with a hunger for travel, adventure, unconventional education and experience.
I am the middle child of a 5 person family, with a younger brother, older sister, and two loving parents. I was born in Burlington, Vermont, USA where I lived till I was seven years old. My family then moved to Monterrey, Mexico where we lived for two and a half years. After that, we moved to Durban, South Africa where we stayed for six years. The last move was from Durban to Cape Town, South Africa, where I have been living since 2014. I am in my senior/matric year at Westerford High School in Cape Town. I am on the Top 5 Academic Achievers list, and am the best in my grade in English and History. I am a champion competitive debater and have represented both Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape at the South African Schools National Debating Championship four times, culminating in me ranking 2nd in the country for all speakers. I have 5 leadership roles at my high school this year, most of them gained through election by my peers and teachers: School Prefect, Captain of Senior Debating, Vice-Captain of the 1st Girls Squash Team, Chairperson of the Cultural Coordinating Committee Executive Council and Vice-Chairperson of the History and Current Affairs Society. I am actively involved in music and theatre and have starred in multiple school musicals and I play guitar. I am an avid reader and squash fanatic, and love to walk and hike. I am friendly and interested- rarely will I turn down the opportunity to meet someone new or learn something I've never heard of.
My strength lies in my ability to work hard and learn ferociously. I want experience in working with my hands and working consistently, with the reward being the feeling of satisfaction that comes with work well done.

Preferred location

I am an extremely pale girl who would greatly prefer a cold climate, but is willing to tough out the heat if necessary.

Skills

My strengths largely lie in my honesty, determination, willingness to learn and my ability to absorb and apply new information quickly. I have good knowledge of cleaning homes and basic cooking skills. I am a vegetarian who is very interested in farming (crops and livestock), and specifically sustainable and/or organic farming. I have limited gardening knowledge and basic knowledge of carpentry. I have a good idea of machines and mechanics, and enjoy building with my own two hands. I am fluent in English, speak nearly-fluent Afrikaans and speak basic Spanish (I used to be fluent when I lived in Mexico as a child) and I find languages fascinating and, as a result, I am very open to learning a new one.

Additional info

I am not a smoker, don't have a drivers license, I am a vegetarian and I have no allergies.
