About the workproject

We need 10 volunteers

Our Farm is a 50 acre self-sustaining family farm in San Isidro del General, Costa Rica. The owners, Rose. from the USA. Rose. is a retired microbiologist and long term organic gardener. Our organic project is dedicated to growing organic food for consumption by the residents and volunteers. Our long term goal is to encourage members of the surrounding community to adopt similar organic principles so that all of us will have a healthier diet and lifestyle.

LEARNING AT THE FARM: The project offers volunteers an opportunity to learn how to design, build, plant, maintain and harvest an organic garden. We utilize farm resources in such a way as to build and preserve healthy soil, nutrients and growing environments by making compost, worm compost, compost by live culture methods, plant rotation, saving seeds and using organic growing methods. Volunteers also learn how to dehydrate fruits, vegetables, coffee, cacao and fruit leathers using our solar dehydrator. Volunteers take part in making products from farm resources that we sell or trade at the local Farmer's Market called the Feria. We are currently building a new greenhouse to house our organic market project. There are opportunities to practice Spanish with our bilingual project manager.

We have a large variety of fruits and vegetables on the farm including organic coffee, over 220 citrus trees, over 400 banana plants, 100 papaya trees, almost 75 mango trees, 20 coconut trees, mamone, starfruit, guanabana, cashew trees and a wide variety of vegetables growing in the greenhouses. We also have 10,000 hardwood trees of many varieties.
