It all began with an eco-tourism degree and a dream to meet fellow travels who we can share our beloved Vancouver Island with – and so The Cona Hostel was born. We provide accommodation only unless you are living with us at our house and helping with the gardening and other odd jobs. Treat yourself to hot tubs and sauna up at Mount Washington when there are vacancies in our vacation rental there. Enjoy views of the mountains from our 2.5 acre property just outside of Courtenay. Generally we start with helping at the hostel and and accommodation only contract. If you are keen and wish to stay longer, we have so many little jobs at our acreage or help with housekeeping at our vacation rental at Mount Washington. Even help entertaining our children! Meals are only provided if you are living with us at our home and the time commitment increases accordingly. We are quite flexible and have a constant supply of work, particularly if you are handy. What minimal French and Spanish we has become rusty living on the west coast. But with a bit of charades we can communicate the basics in those languages. If you have a bit of English we will be fine!

Skiing and sailing and general outdoor enthusiasts, we run our small boutique family run business with passion. We are run off our feet! But never too busy to meet new travelers or find time planning a way to squeeze in our next adventure.
Dorm accommodation at the hostel is provided at the outset and you provide you own meals. For those wishing to stay longer we have other options available that may include meals as well.
If you have a work visa, volunteer work could turn into a paid position.
