Paragliding, Mountain Biking, Trekking, Rock Climbing-
Rappeling and Camping in Bir-Billing
Bir is a quaint town in the Kangra valley of Himachal Pradesh known for its natural beauty, the paragliding world cup, unique Tibetan culture and meditation studies.
Covered in vast estates of tea gardens, Bir enjoys a population of a few thousand Indians, a Tibetan settlement and a slowly growing international settlement of adventure enthusiasts and philosophy students.
Bir has arguably the world’s best paragliding launch site in the world at Billing, a valley 14 kms north of Bir. Every year thousands of professional and hobbyist pilots come to Bir to enjoy the infrastructure the Himachal Pradesh tourism ministry has put in place. Lessons and supervised flights are also available for beginners. The tea plantations and stunning views of the Dhauladhaar range of the Himalayas make for a perfect launch site for Billing paragliding.
The roads on the Bir hills are perfect for casual mountain biking and to discover the new trails alike. There are also amazing sights for rock climbing and rappeling. Both the activities are easy to pick up and are perfectly safe.
The Bir valley is surrounded by dense forests of Oak, Rhododendron and Devdara canopies and local villages. These are tribal villages and people here are categorised as semi nomadic and are very friendly.
Bir is gradually becoming popular as a perfect weekend destination amongst trekkers. Small treks and trails emerge from every corner of Bir Billing in Himachal. These trails help tourists (both domestic and international) enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of Bir. Placed in the Joginder Nagar Valley and nestled among Dhauladhar ranges, the trekking trails from Bir go through high passes and narrow snow trails.
