This is Jenny Bawtree, who founded Rendola Riding way back in 1969 and is still at the helm. She describes herself as ‘middle-aged’, saying: “I’ll describe myself as elderly when I have to stop riding!” Which at the moment is far from the case, as for years she has led most of the rides and treks organized by the Centre.
Jenny has an Oxford degree in languages, speaks Italian, French and some German, and spent four years teaching at the University of Florence. She set up the riding centre because she wanted to transmit to others her love of horses and the Tuscan countryside. She is quite knowledgeable about the local history, art and architecture as well as the flora and fauna.
Jenny finished her autobiography two years ago. It is called: 'Tuscany on horseback: a horsewoman's love affair with the land of Chianti wine'. She is now writing: 'The Labours of the Months: a journey made throughout Italy to explore a fascinating byway of medieval art.' She is more than halfway along the road...
Eraldo Tuveri, Jenny's colleague, is a BHS instructor and an ENGEA guide. He speaks fluent English, and is not only very competent, but also great fun.

Guests stay in Jenny's typically Tuscan farmhouse 50 km from Florence and with lovely views over the Arno valley. The five bedrooms are small but pretty, with traditional furnishings. Each has its own bathroom. There is a large dining room where guests have breakfast and light lunches, and a comfortable sitting room with a log stove lit on cool days. Your host Jenny lives in the same house and is always available for information or simply chat! The house has a homey atmosphere, with books and pictures everywhere, while a friendly labrador and two cats offer affection if you are missing your pets back home. We all have dinner at a friendly trattoria a short walk from the farm. Wonderful Tuscan food cooked by jolly Franca and served with Chianti wine!
The Tuscan experience package includes all meals at the farmhouse and at the local trattoria. It does not include meals away from the centre, for example on excursions to art-cities such as Florence, or on wine-tasting expeditions in the Chianti hills or elsewhere.
