About the experience

We can host up to 6 travelers

We teach you how you can make a Canadian canoe. You start with making the strongback, the form on which you build the canoe. Then you make the stern and the bow, steam bend strips of wood, glue them together with epoxy. Next step is preparing the strips on the right length and add bead and cove to it. Then the fun part starts with starting the strip planking the wood.

All 'students' will receive the book 'Canoecraft' by Ted Moores, the bible on how to make stripped planked canoes.

The type of canoe being built will be the Prospector, an ideal all round canoe.

Most of the wood material will be prepared, but we will teach and show you how the rough wood is being made into strips, how to add the bead and cove etc.

The whole construction in day steps layed out:
- Day 1: getting to know the place, the workshop, introduction
- Day 2: preparing to make the mold of the canoe from paper plan to wood stations
- Day 3: making the mold
- Day 4: making the stem molds
- Day 5: building the hull, the art of strip planking
- Day 6: continue stripping
- Day 7: continue stripping
- Day 8 : sanding the hull
- Day 9: sanding the hull
- Day 10: applying fiberglass cloth outside
- Day 11: applying fiberglass cloth inside
- Day 12: sanding the hull
- Day 13: finalizing details
- Day 14: complete the canoe

We are Mark & Ans. We have bought an old coal mine complex on Mallorca in 2012 named La Mina San Cayetano. It's our paradise where we are kept occupied with many projects related to the vinyard, the orange garden, the olive garden, the jungle under construction, wood working, milling our own pine trees, dry stone building. You name something and we will probably have done it. The canoe building project is a joined project of us and experienced wood workers.
