About the workproject

We need 1 volunteer

Speaking English in Peru is very important due to the good job opportunities it provides to locals. However, many students cannot afford to study another language, especially children. Therefore, our Teaching English program is very important because it gives those who would not normally be able to study English the chance to learn the language.

Our Volunteers will be volunteering at one of our Teaching English projects for about 3-5 hours a day. These projects include schools, community centers, orphanages, and shelters. The people at these projects come from low income families. Please note you may be teaching individually or you may be an assistant teacher in an English class that has a large amount of students.

This program includes assistance in teaching English on the day of your orientation to help to prepare you. Lesson plans are generally not provided to you by the projects. PV Travel provides materials, books and lesson ideas to help you with your classes.

Please expect that your Teaching English project may feel disorganized, understaffed and under funded. It is for these reasons that volunteers are so desperately needed. Also, volunteers may not necessarily teach in front of large classes or in formal classroom settings; teaching can be done in small groups or in a one-on-one format.

Volunteers require a minimum 2 weeks commitment. Volunteers will be responsible for a small administrative fee per week which will be paid in advance. Airport pick-up and a safety and culture orientation will be included.

Peru Volunteer and Travel is an organization that is committed to helping the people of Peru as well as the environment. Every month we place many volunteers in a variety of professional projects such as physical therapy, dental, vision, nursing and medical, and also in non-professional projects including sports education, music exchange, teaching English, cultural immersion, sustainable development, agriculture, jungle conservation and childcare.

We guarantee volunteers a life-changing experience here in Peru. In addition to having many volunteer opportunities available, it is an amazing country to travel to. Peru has a diverse range of landscapes including mountains, jungle, coast, desert and glaciers. However, the most extraordinary feature is its rich cultural history. The blend of cultural sights and adventure tours make Peru an exciting location for volunteers and travelers of all interests. The most popular attraction is Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World, which is located just outside of Cusco.

Despite the jump in tourism, poverty is still a tremendous problem in Peru. Over 50% of the population lives in poverty. Poor government economic policies and extreme inequality make living even harder for low-income families. There are thousands of children living in meager conditions. The lack of access to necessary commodities means more than 25% of children under five are extremely undernourished. In remote areas this number jumps to 70%. Furthermore, low education standards continue to perpetrate these cycles of poverty, malnutrition and inequality. Many adults suffer from chronic diseases as they do not have the money or the access to medical services to be able to treat them. Additionally, there are many animals and plants in danger, especially in the Peruvian jungle. Although the government offers a little help it is not nearly enough.
For these reasons, and many more, Peru is the right place to volunteer.
