About the workproject

We need 4 volunteers

The foundation is situated in Pap Onditi, western part of Kenya. It's a rural area with basic amenities. We run a community project focused on promoting talents among children and economic growth of widows. We have accommodation facilities for volunteers, we have a community center for art lessons and a small farm where we grow fruits and vegetables for home consumption.

Exciting adventure with The Sophia Foundation, Kenya

The Sophia Foundation (TSF) is a Community Based Organisation with a registration number NYK/C.B.O./102 based in Daima road, Pap Onditi, Kisumu County. We have been in operational since November,2018. Our goal, firstly is economic empowerment of empower widows through entrepreneurship and capacity development to create livelihoodsopportunities for them to be financially independent and self reliance to adequately provide for their families.Secondly, is to develop and promote talents amongst children through art, painting, sports, music.Objectives:

1.To support 50 vulnerable women with animals (goat/sheep) as a starter investment.2.To build capacity of 50 vulnerable women in income generating activities (IGAs) and entrepreneurship skills in tailoring and hair dressing.3.To provide counselling to 150 identified vulnerable women to increase their participation in public life as citizens with constitutionally mandated rights.4.To improve the quality of life of the 150 identified vulnerable women by improving relations and coping capacities.Project Strategy:·Awareness·Capacity building·Table banking·Enterprise development in basketmaking, cloth making and hair dressing·Market linkagesExpected Results:·Awareness of 150 women on issues of HIV management, ARVs adherence, nutrition, widow rights and mental health issues enhanced·150 women imparted life skills training for their overall development·Sustainable enterprise established and will considerably enhance the family incomes·increased income and confidence will have multi-generational impact as it will help in securing a better future for the entire family of 150 women

We will prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner and eat together as a family. The volunteer will also have time to get involved in the prepare of food and learn to cook some local delicious and even cook for her choice once in a while.
